Kingston Barnes Exceed Bristol Children’s Charity Pledge Target
Kingston Barnes, a multi-award-winning recruitment agency based in the heart of Bristol, has successfully raised an impressive £13,373.50 for The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal by organising three charity events across 2024.
The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal, Kingston Barnes’ chosen Charity for 2024, started in 1920 and raises £82,500 annually to support 1,650 of the most underprivileged children in Bristol, helping to provide them with a better Christmas.
The charity events included a grueling 11-hour cycle ride, an epic 28-team five-a-side football tournament, and a fun-filled Christmas Quiz hosted in the heart of Bristol.
Kingston Barnes kicked off its charitable efforts with the Charity Cycle Challenge, which took place on Wednesday 3rd July, at 6am. The team, who cycled on static exercise bikes, completed the ambitious ride in just under 11 hours, and managed their last kilometer at 4:50pm at their HQ in Queen Square, Bristol. The team cycled 1 kilometer for each family supported by the charity, totaling 1,650 kilometers in one day—a distance surpassing the combined length and width of the UK, and roughly equivalent to the distance from the UK to Spain. The cycle ride raised a massive £1,718 toward the desired £10,000 total.
Next up was the epic 28-team five-a-side football tournament, which took place at the Imperial Sports Ground on Friday 6th September. The seven-hour tournament saw 28 teams participate, with each team paying a £250 entry fee. Additional funds were raised through a charity auction and raffle, with all proceeds going to The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal. The tournament managed to raise over half of the target with an impressive £6,098.
Finally, Kingston Barnes arranged a less-than-strenuous but fun-filled Christmas Quiz, which took place on Thursday 21st November, at Harbour House in Bristol. The night hosted over 160 festive quiz fanatics with 27 teams from across the sectors that Kingston Barnes specialises in. Altogether, the quiz masters managed to raise a whopping £5,557.50 for The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal.
Together, the three events managed to raise over 33% more than their charitable pledge of £10,000 with a grand total of £13,373.50.
James Kingston, Director of Kingston Barnes, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to say that we have managed to raise an incredible £13,373.50 for our chosen charity for 2024, The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal. One of our biggest goals, among others, was to raise £10,000 for the charity that sits close to our hearts, and today, we are incredibly proud to say we’ve not only hit that target—we’ve smashed it, raising an incredible £13,373.50.
This success is down to some incredible teamwork, collaboration, and creativity. The KB team, alongside our Construction and Property Partnership, made it all possible.”
A representative from The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children Appeal added:
“We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication of Kingston Barnes. The money raised by the agency will make a significant difference to the children we support during the Christmas period. To raise such a huge amount for us is absolutely fantastic and will do so much good for the families we support, ensuring they have an even better Christmas!”
A huge thank you goes out to our partners—the Forum for the Built Environment, Constructing Excellence South West, the Bristol Property Agents Association (BPAA), and RICS—whose support helped make this event a tremendous success.
