The Company 

A Multi-award-winning property and construction consultancy which provide services across numerous sectors and has over 75 years of experience. There are 13 established offices in the UK which provide Project Management, Cost Consultancy and Building Surveying services across an expansive portfolio of projects in both private and public sectors.

We have been appointed to recruit an ambitious Project Manager to join their London office, who will be working with the Department of Education to facilitate wide ranging projects. Despite the initial workload being within the education sector, throughout your career you will be given the freedom to forge a career around the sectors which most interest you. This provides fantastic progression opportunities within the business.

 

The Opportunity 

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a project manager within a leading construction consultancy and have between 2 – 5 years’ experience. It is preferable that the candidate has experience within the education sectors and has a vested interested in delivering school projects for local authorities. The ideal candidate should have experience working on both new build projects, as well as refurbishment schemes in excess of £1,000,000. Candidates who have strong experience delivering construction projects within the public sector or other highly regulated environments are also welcomed.

 

The role will be ideally suited to experienced and chartered project managers, who are from a consultancy background. The ideal candidate will be ambitious and looking to drive their career as a Project Manager forward.

 

In return the role offers a generous package between £45,000 and £55,000 as well as an excellent benefits scheme including private healthcare, company contribution to your pension scheme and incremental increases to your holiday allowance.

 

 

Key Requirements

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience within Project Management
  • Ideally hold or a chartered status with a relevant institution (CIOB, APM, RICS etc.)
  • High quality oral and written communications (reports, instructions etc)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project

Responsibilities:

  • Implement, administer and maintain cost control system and procedures to track project budgets, commitments, expenditures and forecasts for projects of medium complexity and value
  • Assist in the preparation and review of cost estimates
  • Provide cost information to support decision and alternative selection
  • Evaluate contractor invoices prior to submission for pre-approval
  • Utilize information from Cost Capture System and input to cost report and validation of spending
  • Evaluate and analyse fee proposals / bids and provide recommendation for decision making
  • Provide forecasts and cash flow analysis
  • Maintain and manage the cost report and provide regular updates on financial position

My client are a global professional services organization who provide consulting and delivery services to large global clients. With their experience of major capital projects all over the world they are experts at managing the many moving parts involved in complex programmes.

Within their Southwest region their infrastructure team has strong positions in Highways, Utilities, Rail and Defence. They are seeking experienced Projects Controls Risk Managers with proven experience in a risk delivery role on major projects/programmes.

Responsibilities of the Projects Controls Risk Managers include:

  • Facilitate identification, assessment, mitigation and prioritisation of threats, opportunities within a programme.
  • Maintain visibility of threat/opportunity trigger points to facilitate risk exposure profiling, timely draw down of risk contingency or retirement of threat/opportunity.
  • Use risk data to inform funding decisions and annual planning cycles.
  • Understanding or proven application of change management process for impacted threats and opportunities to the Project Management Baseline.
  • Support Project Managers with identification and recording of appropriate management responses which are measurable and specific, to inform the post mitigated positions.
  • Drive a proactive approach to the achievement of management responses to help deliver target positions and reduce exposure.
  • Monitor overall risk exposure and assess against the remaining Risk budget.
  • Proactively manage the completion of management responses to help deliver target positions.
  • Work with contractors to assess contractor held risks and their views on client held risks that impact upon them.
  • Produce risk reports as required, in a timely manner, to support the effective communication of threat & opportunities.
  • Conduct quantitative risk assessment (cost and schedule) to inform project contingency levels.

You will have substantial experience in project controls management on major infrastructure projects and have achieved chartered status or equivalent qualification. Ideally currently cleared to at least SC level or able to gain it (sponsorship available).

They have appointed us  to identify a talented Project Manager to join their team in Bristol with a focus on delivering new build schools schemes for both local authorities and the ESFA. While the initial workload is within the education sector, moving forwards, you would be given the freedom to focus on the service areas that you enjoy the most, with huge scope to progress within the business to level of Associate and beyond.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The ideal candidate will be working in a similar role with a leading construction consultancy, ideally with around 2 – 4 years of experience specifically within the education sector with a strong preference for experience delivering schools projects for local authorities. You should have experience delivering both new build and refurbishment schemes in excess of £5 million in value and have demonstrable experience delivering public sector procurement processes. We are also welcoming applications from strong candidates with experience delivering construction projects within the public sector or highly regulated environments.

This role will ideally suit an experienced Project Manager, from a consultancy background, who is keen to progress their career, alternatively you could currently be working as a Building Surveyor or as a Site/Project Manager for a main contractor, and be keen to move in to Project Management.

In return, our client is offering a highly competitive salary from £30,000 – £45,000 plus an extensive and flexible benefits package which includes; private medical insurance, contributory pension scheme etc.
