As a result they are looking for a Buyer to join their busy team. You will be experienced in the residential sector, ideally with a volume housebuilder, although this is not essential.  As the Buyer your main responsibility will be to manage an efficient materials purchasing process on sites.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of all procurement duties and exercises.
  • Be aware of new materials to the market which would assist the business.
  • Schedule and place material and plant orders with Group National Suppliers where appropriate or general suppliers, optimising cost and quality.
  • Attend internal pre-start meetings and team meetings as required.
  • Check Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with the required material specification. Thereafter resolving any queries with the relevant consultants/ Technical Department.
  • Ensure correct specifications are being used.
  • Produce material cost schedules and budgets with cost codes for new sites and as required, and to review material cost codes to ensure budgets are not exceeded.
  • Produce schedules for material enquiries, sending to suppliers for costing and assessing quotations and supplier’s schedules to ensure they are correct, prior to placing the respective orders.
  • Provide site material accruals on a monthly basis.
  • Compile quarterly material valuations for presentation to the Surveyor to be incorporated in the respective valuation meetings.
  • Carry out material on site checks and produce reports as required.

They are looking for an individual to take the next step in their development as a Buyer within the construction industry and has the necessary experience to support the procurement function. Typical construction projects include mixed residential schemes, care homes and schools/colleges.

As part of the Commercial and Operations Team, the role includes negotiation, managing deadlines, awareness of supply chain and general support of preconstruction, finance, commercial and site management teams. They are looking for a strong team member with previous experience in buying:

Responsibilities include:
• Issuing enquiries – take off and scheduling as necessary
• Raising purchase orders, complying with approval criteria where applicable
• Compile and maintain material procurement schedule
• Challenging specifications through considered Value Engineering
• Obtain quotes/advise on suitable suppliers
• Meeting attendance where applicable
• Promote direct and 3rd party rebate opportunity prior to project delivery and maintain compliance via communication with project teams and subcontractors
• Order in line with existing supply agreements – i.e. to help achieve challenging rebate targets.
• Assist with the development of the existing material supply chain
• Promptly resolve supplier invoice queries in support of Finance team
• Distribution of plant hire reports and review with site team
• Support / provide advice to junior members where necessary
• Support supply chain events where applicable
• Inputting of KPI data into commercial report
